52-week high
A stock's 52-week high is its highest price over the past year. A stock trading near its 52-week high has no recent buyers sitting on losses above it, which is why many momentum and breakout traders look for stocks within 25% of that level.
Counting the stocks making new 52-week highs against those making new lows is a breadth measure. A rising index with shrinking new highs is being carried by fewer stocks.
