T+1 settlement

T+1 settlement means a trade settles one working day after it is made. Shares bought on Monday reach your demat account on Tuesday, and money from a sale is paid out on Tuesday. All Indian stocks have settled on T+1 since January 2023.

Selling shares the day after you buy them, before they reach your demat (buy today, sell tomorrow), is allowed at most brokers. If the seller you bought from fails to deliver, though, your own sale can fall short and go to the exchange auction, which can cost a penalty.
